The songs of the album are themed around love in general, and Malinda’s personal experiences. She describes the album as "a story", which starts with youthful joy, moves to a first love experience, and ends with finding strength from those experiences.
On February 10th, Malinda posted the lyric video for "Last First Love" on her main YouTube channel, and she wrote in the description the following:
I've been on YouTube for 4 years today, and I am so grateful that I get to make music and do what I love because of you all. I released this single for Valentine's Day, but hopefully you'll hear it again re-tracked for an EP!
A few months later, on July 13th, 2018, Malinda announced that she is currently working on an EP, althought the name of it was released only on August 21st, in a video "A massive change" and, until its official release, it was avalible for digital pre-ordering.
On September 14th, 2019, the EP's one year anniversary, Malinda said the following:
My debut EP came out a year ago. We’ve grown together so much since then. But the first steps will always be precious 💙 thank you for the love this lil one has received!!
Reception and reviews
The EP was met with mostly positive reviews from Malinda's fans and people from YouTube.
Malinda did a giveaway with the #myloveletter. To participate in this giveaway, you needed to send Malinda a photo on Twitter or Instagram, and describe a way in which you gave back to someone or something you love. The winner received free album merch and a signed album.
"Not The Same", "Safely", and "Love Letter" are the only songs from the album without music videos.
On November 8th, 2018, Malinda released physical copies of the album, which can be bought for $10 USD. There is also a signed version, which can be bought for $15 USD.
